Artist Research Consept art

Conceptual art is art which the concept or idea involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns.

Andy Goldsworthy

He is a concept artist who creates sculptures using things found outdoors such as stone, ice, wood and plants his work is something that can not be moved and can not be remade as it deteriorates over time by natural effects like weather.

Examples of his work

Richard Long

His work is smiler to Andy Goldsworthy in which he uses various materials to create pattens then photograph them.
Other pieces of his work consist of photographs or maps of unaltered landscapes accompanied by texts detailing the location.

Artist Research Young British Artists

Young British Artists or (YBA)

also referred to as Brit artists and Britart-is the name given to a loose group of visual artists who first began to exhibit together in London in 1988.
They achieved considerable media coverage and dominated british art during 1990s

Bullet Hole By Mat Colloshaw featured in the freeze exhibition.

In 1999 Tracy Emin was nominated for the turner prize. Her main exhibit My Bed consisting literally of her dishevelled stained bed surrounded by detritus including condoms slippers and soiled underwear created an immediate and lasting media impact and further heightened her prominence.

To me this symbolises a moment caught in time either after a rough night or just someone who doesn't tidy up very well.

Artist Research Post Modernism

Post Modern art is a body of art movements that sought to contradict some aspects of modernism or some aspects that emerged or developed in its aftermath.

Dada

In the early 20th century Duchamp exhibited a urinal as a sculpture.
His intention with this was he told everyone it was a piece of art because he said it was.
From a chronological point of view Dada is located solidly within modernism however a number of critics have held that it anticipates post modernism.

What I like about this piece is how he manipulates peoples minds, they are made to believe that this is a work of art because the artist tells them so as if we are the ones who decide if we are artists.

Jackson Pollock

During the late 1940s and early 1950s Pollock's radical approach to painting revolutionized the potential for all contemporary art.

Jackson Pollock's process

Working on the floor on unstretched raw canvas Pollok worked from all four sides using artist materials, he used industrial items non-imagery, throwing linear layers of paint dripping drawing brush marks across the canvas, essentially this blasted art making beyond any prior boundary.

When looking at a work using dripping pattens like this you need to take a closer look to appreciate the art behind the piece if you look long enough you can start to see different things from the lines and pattens.

Artist Research Pop Art

Roy Litchenstine

He specialises in pop art and his style of comic strip drawings is very recognizable  when I see his work I can tell by the use of dots in the picture.
i like his work and think it looks very detailed and creative. It is interesting to see something come from a comic book to art work. with the change in scale the tiny dots in the art work become clear almost like a patten in the art work.

Artist Research Pop Art

Andy Warhol

He is a american artist who was leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art his work is done using print techniques some of his most famous art work is the (Campbell's soup can) and images of Marilyn Monroe.
I chose these two because I like the use of different colour and the repeating patten he uses in most of his pieces this is his style and I find it very bold, simple and recognisable his message with this piece was was all about consumerism and mass making.

Social Realism Notes

Notes what social realism is:
Social realism is a art movement that refers to the work of painters, print makers, photographers and film makers who draw attention to the everyday conditions of the working class and the poor social realists.

Chairman Mao and Lenin

They were both dictators of different countries that looked the same although had different ideals
this image represents the people it shows that the people are saying they are good providers.

The image on the right of Chairman Mao gives the same impression how he rules over his people and they look up to him. he is presenting him self as a god like figure.
